I’m the co-owner of Darling Electric Salon, born and raised right here in the East Bay. I’ve been doing hair professionally since 2005, but I started experimenting on my own hair at the age of 16. I started my career at Peter Thomas Hair Design in North Berkeley, where I was a stylist and educator for 14 years. I welcome people of all ages, genders, ethnicities and hair types. My goal is to work with you to figure out a hairstyle that is completely customized to your needs. I specialize in pixie cuts, shags, razor cuts, bleach blondes, and creative color. When I’m not doing hair I’m probably knitting, baking, or DJing on local Berkeley radio station KALX.

Hi! I’m the other co-owner of Darling Electric salon and am an east coast transplant. I love what I do and creating a look that’s yours, that evolves as you do, is really exciting to me. All humans and hair types are invited! I love to sculpt curly hair, create texture and movement and finish cuts to be long-lasting. I do all color services from grey coverage to hair painting and highlighting to creative color. I care deeply about the environment and our health and work with the cleanest product and color lines I can find. I learned my craft from Peter Thomas Hair in Berkeley in 2005, where I worked as a stylist and educator for 14 years before opening Darling Electric. I’ve also trained in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. When not at the salon, I might be making art, swimming, listening to music or hanging with my family and friends.

Jonah June Tharp (they/them)

I’m an artist and I love bringing that element of creativity to my haircuts. As a haircutting specialist I pay close attention to detail and take my time listening to each client to arrive at the style that suits their individual needs. My cuts are long lasting and require minimal styling. I enjoy doing all kinds of short hair. Pixie and razor cuts are my specialties. I love bobs, shags and anything with texture and movement. I’ve been cutting professionally in Berkeley since 2002. I got my start at Peter Thomas salon where I worked as a stylist and educator. I’ve also been honing my skills taking classes in LA, New York and all over the Bay. When I’m not crafting haircuts, you will find me a few blocks away in my art studio printing and painting. I might be working on a zine.

kelly tschantz (she/her)

I started my career in hair as an apprentice at Peter Thomas Salon where I was a hairdresser for 17 years. I taught haircutting classes while at Peter Thomas. I specialize in creating easy-to-maintain styles that complement the clients’ natural hair texture. I aim for natural looking all-over color, highlights, gray-blending, as well as the occasional pop of creative color on white or previously lightened hair.
When I’m not working, I enjoy history, old movies, and traveling.

In 2009 I transitioned from a career as a touring drummer to the world of haircutting. I studied at the Paul Mitchell San Francisco Institute. I've also enjoyed secondary education from Vidal Sassoon, Bumble & Bumble, and others. I began my career at Keter Salon in Berkeley where I spent 12 years honing my skills as a cutting specialist. I love doing short hair, pixies, men's cuts, but also enjoy long layers and a polished blowout. When I'm not at the salon, you'll probably find me writing and recording music.
Katie Lyons (She/hER)

I began my career as a dedicated hairstylist in 2012. I trained at the San Francisco Institute of Esthetics and Cosmetology, and refined my skills at Peter Thomas Hair in North Berkeley for the first eight years of my career. I operated my own studio for four years in Piedmont, Oakland before arriving at Darling Electric. I've advanced my expertise with renowned institutions such as Deva Curl, Goldwell, Paul Mitchell, and Toni and Guy London. I create hairstyles that enhance features, suit personalities, and celebrate identities. Your hairstyle is an expression of who you are, and I'm here to help you achieve it. Beyond the salon, I find inspiration in vegan cuisine and the powerful energy of drag shows. Nourishing those I love with plant-based dishes brings me joy, while supporting drag fuels my passion for self-expression and individuality. Join me on this transformative journey. I am a bay area native, born and raised in Berkeley where I have been doing hair since 2013. I specialize in bleach work, hair painting, color corrections and curly hair. I love working with guests to help them embrace their most beautiful selves. As a former educator and sales specialist at an organic and non-toxic hair product company, I trained and worked all across the country and overseas. I’ve had various types of advanced training with a focus on clean beauty. I currently work as a traveling stylist, coming to the Bay Area every few months to service clients.
